I was sitting here thinking of the blog post I was going to write on fear. I am still going to write it..
But I turned on some worship music, and it was somewhere in the middle of the song, and the first lines hit me really hard. You know how sometimes you put a song on that so entirely resonates and consumes everything within you? This song hit me like a ton of bricks, quite unexpectedly I might add.
So the song starts…
“…Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God
Oh, it chases me down, fights ’til I’m found, leaves the ninety-nine
I couldn’t earn it, and I don’t deserve it, still, You give Yourself away
Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God, yeah..”
I’m sure some of you have heard the song before, and I have many times. But this song gets me every time.
And I started to have a feeling of great sadness as I think of all the times I have doubted His love for me. I started to wonder if I ever truly have understood a love so pure, and full. If I have ever truly understood how much He loves His children. I know how I feel of my children, but for some reason I can’t imagine that He might really feel that strongly for me, someone so small compared to Him.
I wonder how many of you might think that same thing. How grieved He must be that we don’t believe Him when He tells us He loves us. “Leaves the 99” “The prodigal son” ..
All these examples of His perfect unending love, and we can’t seem to see past the scary discipline. Oh, how I wish my children would believe me wholly when I tell them how much I love them, even when they are in trouble.
If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!
Matthew 7:11
How much more could He have a pure love for us.
Be encouraged brothers and sisters, that His love for you is Holy, and true. He loves you still, even after that thing you did or thought or said. He loves you with a pure love. And He is patient. He is more patient than your earthly fathers, than that person that said they loved you, and they hurt you. He is love. Draw near to Him.
Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
John 15:13
And for those that have not found Him yet, take heart, for He loved us while we were yet sinners. He waits only for you to come to Him in repentance, that He may forgive you, and heal you.
Have a blessed night,
Grace.
